Ravel Ravel Unravel, Anri Sala : La Biennale di Venezia

RAVEL RAVEL UNRAVEL

A polysemic title built on the verb « to ravel » and its opposite « to unravel » between which was inserted the homograph of « to ravel, Ravel » in reference to the famous French composer Maurice Ravel, author in 1930 of the « Concerto in D for the left hand », which constitutes here the heart of Anri Sala’s project. In the central space of the Pavilion, a first work, Ravel Ravel, consists of two films each centered on the left hand of a famous pianist: Louis Lortie on the one hand and Jean-Efflam Bavouzet on the other hand. In adjacent rooms, two other films are presented under the unique title Unravel. Chloe, a DJ, is filmed alone, mixing the two interpretations of the “Concerto” in an attempt to make them meet.
